To the Journal editor:

The VanDamme family would like to thank all those who donated to the Michael J. VanDamme Memorial Fund in his honor of his passing on Aug. 19, 2017.

Mike’s family thought about the best way to honor his memory and felt that the Marquette County Fair was the best fit. It is their hope that many individuals will be able to enjoy this building eating ice cream with their families, enjoying a meal with friends, or taking a break out of the sun to enjoy all that the Marquette County Fair has to offer.

The VanDamme family has a long history with the Marquette County Fair going back many generations when Jeannette and Paul VanDamme worked the Harvest Festival at Lakeview Arena along with Mike VanDamme and Jim Meyers (son of Molly and Brett Meyers) helping to build the fairgrounds as we know them today. Mike and Linda VanDamme’s grandchildren continue to show 4-H animals today.

The VanDamme family would also like to thank the Marquette County Fair Board for their welcoming support of this project.
