Watch Enbridge carefully
To the Journal editor:
Enbridge apparently has turned over a new leaf in its oil pipeline operations or so it claims in it’s ad of June 12, 2019. It claims to care deeply about the Great Lakes and the residents of Michigan and not about its bottom line.
Let’s examine their claim. The history of Enbridge’s operations includes many oil spills in the U.S. and Canada between 1996 and 2015. This includes at least six spills in Michigan with 226,000 gallons of oil spilled at Crystal Falls in 1999 and more than 1,000,000 gallons spilled at Marshal in 2010.
I’m sure that Enbridge claimed it would do better in its operations after every one of these spills and claimed it cared deeply about the area and its residents. However, the data shows that they continued on with slipshod pipeline construction, maintenance, inspection and response to spills.
Can we trust Enbridge? History shows not one iota. Contact Governor Whitmer and indicate your support for decommissioning Line 5.
