Chick-fil-A founder deserves praise

To the Journal editor:

Dan T. Cathy is the owner of one of the largest family-owned businesses in the U.S., Chick-fil-A, (a fast food restaurant). He is a Christian businessman and his business operations are closed on Sunday as this is a day of rest as recorded in the Bible. This allows the entire Chick-fil-A family to attend church and worship our Creator. He also believes that marriage is between one man and one woman. The LGBTQ community found this belief to be very upsetting so they called for a boycott of the enterprise on Aug. 1, 2012, with the intent to ultimately drive Chick-fil-A out of business. Gov. Huckabee called for a counterattack on the same day. Chick-fil-A had by far its largest sales day in its 70-plus year history. The American people support marriage between one man and one woman and thus supported the company and its ideals. The LGBTQ contingent does not seem to realize that a union of one man and one woman produced all of them!

In my opinion, the LGBTQ community is very vindictive. They brought suit against a farm owner who would not allow them to rent her facility for a wedding. They sued a cake decorator because he would not design a cake with gays displayed thereon. They sued a photographer who would not photograph their wedding.

The ACLU works in the courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve individual rights and liberties guaranteed under the Constitution and laws of the United States to all people. Yet the ACLU has failed to support Chick-fil-A when San Francisco, Chicago and Boston denied Chick-fil-A permission to establish a franchise in their cities. Chick-fil-A has been banned in airports in San Antonio, Texas, and Buffalo, New York. Mr. Cathy could win a suit against these entities under the First Amendment to our Constitution. However, he also believes the Bible as the true word of God. As Christians, we believe God is in control and all things will be worked out by Him. The LGBTQ community did not approve of the $1.6 million that Dan contributed to Fellowship of Christian athletes as reported by ThinkProgress in 2017. I salute Dan Cathy for his Christian values. We should support Chick-fil-A in our travels around this great nation. This nation is a better place in which to live because of individuals such as Mr. Cathy!
