Shopko workers thanked

To the Journal editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the past and current employees of the local Shopko stores in Ishpeming and Marquette for their community involvement and support of local organizations. For the past 22 years, they were a major contributor to the success of our annual toy run.

Without the strong support and involvement from the managers and employees at each location, thousands of toys would not have found their way under the tree on that special day for so many children.

The Ishpeming store was also a key player for years in support of the United Steelworkers Local 4950 school supply drive to assist teachers in preparing their classrooms with much needed items for the school year. Patti Ellis and her teammates were phenomenal and will be missed.

With the announcement of the Ishpeming Mining Journal office closing, this throws another wrench into our spokes with the loss of a drop-off point for the annual Cheer Club that was coordinated out of that office.

The past and present office staff at the Ishpeming location has always been supportive and great to work with.

We have to regroup and develop a new routine moving forward; however, there will be a 23rd year and so on with our annual toy runs.

We wish all the employees from the organizations noted above the best of luck in their future endeavors. Thanks for everything; it has been “one great run.”
