NPS thankful for assistance

To the Journal editor:

On behalf of Negaunee Public Schools’ Board of Education, I am writing to thank the Upper Peninsula districts for the kindness they have shown to us in response to our recent bus garage collapse. Because of the support from these districts, we did not have a disruption in our school schedule despite this being a major hurdle in the operation of our schools. The quick response from so many to offer their support was overwhelming.

As of today, we are still unsure of the extent of the damage to our fleet. We will be assessing the condition of our buses and begin the process of replacement and repair as soon as we can, and hope to have a full fleet of leased buses in the near future. In the meantime, we see the names of the many supportive schools pass by on buses throughout the day.

The names of the different districts on the buses is a warm reminder that in times of need, we have wonderful allies in our Upper Peninsula neighbors. The care and concern that was expressed has been felt by everyone in our community and is what makes our Upper Peninsula community so special.

Thank you for your help and support in our time of need. Your generosity is appreciated by everyone in the Negaunee Public Schools community and beyond.

Sincerely,

DAN SKEWIS, superintendent

Negaunee Public Schools
