To the Journal editor:

Ninety-six ladies showed up at the Red Fox Run Golf Course August 17 to play golf. They came to participate in the 18th annual golf outing to raise funds to support the volunteer organization known as Cancer Care of Marquette County.

Luckily the weather cooperated and the ladies enjoyed a great day of golf and fun. This event is limited to 96 players and has become so popular that we had teams on a wait list.

Money is raised obviously through registration costs but also by soliciting individuals and businesses to sponsor Tee/Green signs, a silent auction, the sale of tickets for a raffle which always has wonderful items and is very popular, by selling a packet of various ways to improve your golf score is also very popular, the sale of 50/50 tickets and from donations. This year $20,000 was raised surprassing last year’s $18,425.

The women who are members of the Red Fox Ladies League work together to make this tournament such a success. They solicit from various businesses for gift certificates and gifts to be used as prizes so not one cent of the funds raised is spent in any way. It all goes to CCMC.

The ladies all pay an extra $5.00 in membership dues to cover the small costs we do entail such as postage, making of the Tee/Green signs and printing of the thank you notes that get sent to each and every contributor.

We appreciate Red Fox Run Golf Course charging us such a fair amount for the golf so we are able to keep our entry fee down. It is a wonderful tournament attended by ladies who come out to support us in raising money for such a great cause. Cancer Care of Marquette County is an all volunteer organization which only has a few people running it all.

Their purpose is to help individuals who need assistance in paying medical bills incurred with the treatment of their cancer, helping with prescription costs and it helps with the purchase of gas, motel and eating expenses related to getting treatment from facilities out of our local area.

According to CCMC our group is the largest donor of funds to their organization — that is very impressive. Thank you to Red Fox Run Golf Course for hosting this event and to all the ladies who come out to support it.
