Time to forget CR 595

To the Journal editor:

The recent big snow in mid-April got me thinking again about Marquette County Road 595. First, let me thank all the men and women in our cities, towns and county for the long, hard hours, dedication and super job of plowing and moving snow.

Now back to CR 595. How many man-hours, resources and money would have been spent in the snowy north country keeping the “mine” road passable? No tax money spent though, right?

How much sand and salt would have been laid down? No tax money spent though, right?

What happens to all that salt and sand when it enters the many streams during the spring run-off? Heck, what’s a little pollution to the vast pristine ecosystem of the U.P.? Trickle down destruction, sand to silt, insect production and breeding structure for native trout reproduction. So what, we must take care of the mine, right?

How many tax-paying families in outlying areas would have had their main and side roads snow removal delayed? Not the “mine” road though, right?

Time for our road commission engineer, local and state elected officials to stop the rhetoric of future development at stake here.

Do not sell short the intelligence of the “Yoopers” that oppose your views. Table/scrap the pursuit of this road. It is the right thing to do!
