LWV not non-partisan
To the Journal Editor:
I must take issue with your Where We Stand editorial of Wednesday, Aug. 2, regarding the League of Women Voters.
In your editorial, you stated, “Nonpartisanship is a cornerstone of the LWV’s mission since it doesn’t support or oppose any political party or candidate”.
According to Wikipedia, “The League of Women Voters is officially non-partisan, though it supports a variety of progressive public policy positions, including campaign finance reform, universal health care, abortion rights, climate change action and environmental regulation, and gun control.”
The “Policy Views” section of the Wikipedia article goes on to detail a plethora of liberal policies supported and promoted by the LWV.
I’ve lived long enough and followed politics long enough to know that the LWV is not non-partisan. If a group supports and promotes almost all of the policy positions of one of the two major political parties, it is then supporting the candidates of that political party.
