To the Journal editor:

I was both surprised and disappointed when I saw the photos on a large section of the front page of The Mining Journal (July 8, 2017) showing kids diving/swimming from the bulkhead at Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Marquette.

Since I was a kid, it was illegal to do so. So, before I wrote this, I contacted the Marquette Police Department to verify that it was still that way. They said (positively) it was.

I can’t believe that The Mining Journal would publish photos that would encourage kids to do what is not only illegal but potentially dangerous.

Maybe (The Mining Journal has) decided to accept the liability when someone who saw this decides to do the same and is injured or killed.
