Crisis preventable

To the Journal editor:

A recent letter to the editor requires a response. The Flint water crisis is not a matter of party affiliation, it is a truly tragic health emergency.

The Flint City Commission and mayor never had the authority to choose a water source. The emergency manager, appointed by Gov, Rick Snyder, made the decision to use untreated river water.

The Flint water board gave bogus test results to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. There is ample blame for everyone involved. How odd that state office workers in Flint were supplied with bottled water while assuring residents city water was safe.

If our governor was an honorable man with a shred of integrity, he would have long since resigned. The emergency manager has refused to testify. Meanwhile, children continue to be poisoned. National politics aside, is it any wonder we are the laughing stock of the world?

Dishonest politicians and their poorly educated and uninformed supporters are temporary. Brain damaged and learning disabled children are forever.

Sleep well governor.
