Bike lane opposed

To the Journal editor:

The new bike lane on Third Street has made it unsafe for biking and driving.

While it may be safer to bike south on Third, the north bound lane is too narrow for cars, bikes and parked cars. I was behind a biker in the northbound lane in a car and there was no room for her to safely ride. She ended up going on the sidewalk. If someone opens their car door there is no room for error if biker or car is in the northbound lane.

The south bound bike lane is wide enough for two bikes to ride next to each other. Could it have been made narrower and another lane put in on the other side?

The driving lanes for cars are very narrow and must be pretty tight for emergency vehicles also. It just seems like there is too much going on with parked cars, bikes, cars, patios and bike racks in the road.

I am an avid biker and all for bike lanes where there is room. I try to avoid driving and riding down Third Street now.

I hope no one gets hurt going north on Third Street.
