Military matters

To the Journal editor:

I hope this isn’t too late to get in before Memorial Day because what I have to say is important, I think.

I served in the U.S. armed forces/military after the Korean (War) but a little bit before the war in Vietnam. I did my duty like a lot of other young fellows did their duty, too.

Military service back then was something almost everyone did at one time or another. You went into the service after high school or after trade school or maybe even after college study.

People were proud of what they were able to do back then and so was everyone else – family, the town they lived in, etc.

These days I hope we don’t let that slip away because if we do, it’s going to be hard on all of us. Be proud to be an American and be proud to wear the uniform of the branch you go in to. I know I sure was.

(On Memorial Day) make sure you keep in mind what people have done so you can have a decent life.

We should never forget the sacrifices that were made in the past for all of us.

Thank you for listening to what I have to say.
