Panel’s call cited

To the Journal editor:

Those who oppose the boathouse want to make it a controversial project, Why? Isn’t there enough controversy in this town – and world for that matter – to go around?

The need to block the Upper Peninsula Community Rowing Club boathouse and the statements in a recent front page article of The Mining Journal are very questionable, in my opinion.

If the issue is the preservation of the “people’s area” how much better can it be than what has been planned?

An observation deck to see the lake and surrounding area, a dock to access the beautiful pure water, my favorite: a bathroom, space for others to store their boats to allow them to access the water.

Not to mention the enjoyment of watching our local residents and our students at Northern Michigan University in sport that preserves the environment with human power. No gasoline, no noise, just the beauty of scaling the water at break neck speed, what is the matter with that?

The last thing we need is another petition to take a matter to a ballot; that is why we have commissioners. Let’s let them do their job, well.
