Rivals are next door

Just a thought about local high school football. Why doesn’t Ishpeming and Marquette play each other in football anymore? The last time they met was in 1989.
Ishpeming recently traveled to Gaylord (236 miles) and Marquette to Grafton, Wisconsin (272 miles) to play games.
Why travel 250 miles for a game when you can drive 15 miles to play, and renew an old Marquette County rivalry.
