Opposes Benishek

To the Journal editor:

The TV ad asks, “Are you with ‘us’ or with “them”? “Us” is the Koch brothers, Karl Rove, Mitch Mcconnell, the wealthiest 1 percent and U.S. Rep. Dan Benishek, R-Crystal Falls.

They show scary pictures of Obama and Pelosi.Oooh. Dr. Dan runs hard against the Affordable Care Act. In fact, Obamacare is working, but you won’t hear it from him or his ilk. But who is really “them”? Well, them are the 2619 persons in Marquette County now covered by the Medicaid expansion. The expansion is called Healthy Michigan, and 2619 of them are now covered by insurance who had none before. 2619. In Marquette county. These are folks who previously fell through the cracks. statewide, over 424,000 Michiganders are now enrolled in Healthy Michigan. Some 424,000 of them. That’s a lot of federal money coming into Michigan. Dr. Dan wants to end that.

Imagine having a baby born with a heart defect requiring multiple surgeries. That child could reach the lifetime cap on her family’s insurance by the age of 5, and be forever uninsurable because of a “pre-existing condition.” Under Obamacare, that can’t happen now, but Dr. Dan wants to go back to that.

How many times in the past 30 years has your insurance premium or co-pay been increased? Whose fault was it before Obamacare? That’s whose fault it still is. Only now they can’t take your money and then cancel your policy when you get sick. Congressman Benishek wants to go back to that. Insurance companies must now spend at least 80-85 percent of premiums on actual health care. Dr. Dan wants to get rid of that.

Medicare is stronger today than it’s been in a generation, thanks to Obamacare. Preventive care for seniors now has no co-pay,and the prescription donut hole is closing for them. Dr. Dan wants to take that away. Dr. Dan supports the Ryan plan, which slashes Medicare to apy for tax cuts for the billionaires.

So turned off by Dan Benishek’s “Us vs. them” message. My friends, we are all them.

Opposes Benishek

To the Journal editor:

Everyone should do their own research. The following are my opinions.

A lot of ads are showing up addressing Michigan K-12 school funding. If anyone wants to know how Gov. Rick Snyder feels about public schools just ask him what public school he sent his children to. Ask him what the average yearly cost was to send his children to a private school, if that is the case.

That alone should speak volumes about his opinion. If you want to know how Snyder really feels about hourly workers, look at what he has done to Michigan retirees and Michigan state workers.

As the head of Michigan’s executive branch, he oversees all departments. Michigan Office of Retirement just doubled co-pays and deducts for Michigan retirees. If the average citizen of Michigan thinks he would put workers above the millionaires in Michigan I have a bridge to sell you.

And, remember this is in a year when reports state health care has grown slower than any time in recent history. And before you say it is because of the ACA tell me any time in the last 30 years when health care has increased slower than it has during the last year.

This is just an example of how Snyder is balancing the state’s budget on low income individuals who are least able to afford it while, giving tax breaks to his rich friends.

As for U.S. Rep. Dan Benishek, R-Crystal Falls, you should look at his bio on his opinions. First he believes Social Security should be privatized. That alone says volumes.

What a boom for Wall Street and in my opinion a disaster for the average citizen. After all we know in the last 20 years investments have only gone up and all would have benefited from privatization. What was Benishek’s last job?

Oh yeah, it was with the VA. Has anyone asked Benishek how many times he was a whistle blower or was he part of the problem? Now he is quick to criticize the VA but when he actually worked there what did he do? Another question how many times did he vote to repeal the ACA? If it was more than 40 I would suggest he is insane. I don’t say that, Einstein said it when he gave his definition of insanity.

In conclusion, if you make less than $200,000 a year, in my opinion, Republicans are not your friend.
