UPAWS thankful

To the Journal editor:

On behalf of the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter I’d like to thank Super One Foods of Marquette and Negaunee for the cookouts they held on Friday and Saturday of Labor Day weekend to benefit our shelter.

With brats, chips and pop for only $3, a lot of people stopped to eat & visit with shelter representatives. Even though the weather was a bit rainy, those grilled brats were delicious!

We’d especially like to thank store managers Robert Delongchamp & Kyle L’Huiller, who make this happen each year and their terrific staff people who handled the grill and helped serve all the hungry customers.

Because the food and drinks were totally donated by Old Wisconsin, Old Dutch, Sara Lee & Coke, all proceeds from the cookouts were able to come to the shelter, so a big thank you goes out to them also. Generous Super One customers also donated many of cans of cat food (which the shelter really needed), other supplies and donated money in our canisters.

And both stores decided to help even more this year by offering paper ‘paws’ for customers to sign and donate a $1. Many kind people took part in this added promotion during the last few weeks and that added a great boost to our total of over $6,200!

A Super Big thank you to Super One of Marquette and Negaunee (and their very generous customers) for helping our shelter again this year!
