To the Journal editor: Recently, I turned on the television to see an attack ad against our congressman, U.S. Rep. Dan Benishek, R-Crystal Falls.

This ad features a local waitress who claims that Dr. Dan voted to end Medicare. It’s funny to me that the Democrats are still using this worn-out attack on Republicans, even though it was named the “Lie of the Year” in 2011 by Politifact.

Dr. Dan did not vote to end Medicare, yet many might see this ad and actually believe it. I’m fairly certain they ran a similar attack ad against Dr. Dan on this same topic in 2012.

This is why I am asking you to go out and do your research about our candidates.

Dr. Dan has worked hard to bring jobs back to Northern Michigan and he truly cares about the people here.

After three years in the House, Dr. Dan has passed meaningful legislation that is already making a difference here in Marquette.

With increases in technical training we are seeing more young people get training for the jobs here and to be able to stay in the U.P. small businesses are making a go of it and more families are able to stay in the U.P.

So please do your research and don’t just listen to an ad that gives out misleading information.
