Finn on display

To the Journal editor:

I would like to thank everyone who was at my 35th anniversary of the Finnish language classes this past Monday evening in Ishpeming. I am so humbled to realize how many people came to celebrate.

I am thankful for all of my students who year after year come back to school and try to learn the Finnish language.

I know it is a very difficult language to learn, but now I see that my students have a lot of sisu which makes them try harder. The ages of my students range from 4 years old all the way up to upper 80s.

I also want to thank the speakers, namely Bob Marietti (my first boss in 1979), John Korsman, Walt Lindala, Carl Pellonpaa, David Holli and Wil Kilpela for providing a musical selection.

I am so glad that over 100 people came to spend an evening with other Finns. A statement, “It’s In to Be a Finn,” was very well represented on Monday evening.

I will continue teaching for many more years and I know that the interest in learning Finnish is very well alive.

Thank you to The Mining Journal for running the story on the Sunday paper about the school party.
