Resource fairs vital for area senior citizens
A series of resource fairs for area residents 60 and older are planned for later this month.
The events will feature health exams, resources and other health and wellness focused services.
The Marquette Senior Center’s fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23. The deadline for vaccination sign-up has already passed. Blood pressure examinations, kidney disease education, cancer screening education, demonstrations, dietary tips and more will be available. Questions can be directed to 906-228-0456.
The Ishpeming Multi-Purpose Senior Center’s fair will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24. For more information, call 906-485-5527.
The Negaunee Senior Center will hold its resource fair from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Raffles, giveaways, blood pressure checks, diabetic foot exam education and more will be provided. Vaccines available are COVID-19 (Pfizer or Moderna), pneumococcal and flu (if available). A free lunch will be offered at noon for those who sign up in advance. Attorney Jake Spear will have an estate planning workshop at 1 p.m. following the lunch. To RSVP for vaccines, exams or the free lunch, call the center at 906-475-6266.
Forsyth Senior Citizens Center will not offer transportation for its 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 27 fair. Attendees may participate in the congregate meal provided by Community Action Alger-Marquette if they call the center at 906-346-9862.
These events are fantastic resources to make sure that local seniors receive the care they may need. We highly encourage anyone who is eligible to take advantage of these services and help keep Superiorland healthy.
