The Mining Journal Cheer Club launches its annual effort to help area families during the holidays today.
It continues to make Christmas a little brighter for families in this area, but only with your help.
We urge our readers to become involved in the effort this year. Working with the Salvation Army, this newspaper has set up an effort to collect toys, games and other items to help Santa bring holiday cheer to those who are struggling.
Unwrapped toys, clothes, games and other items for all ages are sought for the next several weeks. The Salvation Army will then distribute these gifts to families in our area.
In this season of hustle and bustle, it's sometimes easy to forget how many parents are struggling to put food on the table, let alone to be able to provide presents to their children.
Santa's elves can come in the form of Mining Journal readers who participate in this annual effort. For details, see the story by Mining Journal Staff Writer Randy Crouch on the front page of today's edition.
For those who don't want to shop, monetary gifts are of course welcome and will go a long way toward making the season a warm one for needy children.
Thank you in advance for being part of The Mining Journal Cheer Club. And Merry Christmas to one and all.
