Operation Winter Wear another example of people helping people

Although the last handful of days have been temperate in Superiorland, all of us know that winter’s icy blasts are just around the corner.

That means breaking out the winter coats and other attendant clothing for another freezing season.

But what if life’s circumstances have resulted in people — including children — being without appropriate clothing.

It’s a situation that is more common than you think. In response, a local church and thrift shop have teamed up to do something about it.

According to a Mining Journal story on the matter, Operation Winter Wear, an outreach that provides new and like-new adult and child-sized coats to individuals in need, will be taking place Oct.18-20.

Hosted by Silver Creek Church and Silver Creek Thrift, distribution will be by appointment only on Wednesday, Oct. 18 and Thursday, Oct. 19.

Walk-ins are welcome on Friday, Oct. 20 between noon and 3 p.m.

Appointments can be made by calling 906-249-1715 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday starting Monday and ending Oct. 12.

Silver Creek Church and Silver Creek Thrift are located at 219 Silver Creek Road in Harvey.

What a wonderful example of people helping people.

We salute both entities for taking on this responsibility.
