We admire Delight Hill and her continuing efforts to help others with the organization she founded in memory of her daughter.
Just Believe is the name of that foundation which works to increase awareness of skin cancer and how to prevent it. Jodi Hill Ball, Delight Hill's daughter, died of melanoma stage four brain cancer back in 2013, and the efforts in carrying out her wish to help others have continued through fundraisers.
Delight Hill said funds raised go back to the community, "especially to assist families going through medical emergencies."
Hill said funds will also help with the on-going Sunscreen Dispenser Project. Since 2016, Just Believe has been involved with more than 88 sunscreen dispenser placements throughout the Upper Peninsula.
So we encourage the community to head out to Gwinn on Sunday for the Just Believe 2023 Bike/Walk/Run at The Up North Lodge in Gwinn. These events will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.:
≤ 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Forefront Dermatology will provide free skin checks for the public. No appointment is needed.
≤ Noon to 1 p.m. Registration for the Bike/Walk/Run. The cost is $10 for adults and $20 per family. Shirts are $15. To be guaranteed a shirt at the time of registration, call 906-869-5200.
≤ 1 p.m. Bike/Walk/Run begins. The event will start at Up North Lodge and follow the loop around Shag Lake and end at Up North Lodge.
≤ 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. bean bag/bucket raffle, 50/50 drawings and door prizes will begin at 3 p.m.
Hill said the event is crucial to those who knew and loved Jodi.
"It was important to my daughter. My daughter passed away after having melanoma stage four brain cancer and it's something she wanted to do, as far as get out and educate people on the dangers of the sun," Hill said. "And also to support the things she was involved in."
Even if Sunday's weather is less than ideal, we hope the turnout is large. It's a great cause.
