New state poll cites Marquette’s ‘vibrant’ music scene

It was no surprise to us when Marquette’s music scene was cited in a Michigan best poll.

As detailed this week in a story by Journal Staff Writer Dreyma Beronja, Marquette ranked 31 out of 120 destinations with the best live music scenes, as voted for by music lovers in a poll by CheapoTicketing.com.

The website reported Marquette was ranked for its “thriving” live music scene that adds to the city’s “vibrant” culture, adding “With picturesque Lake Superior as a backdrop, music enthusiasts can enjoy performances at venues like the Ore Dock Brewing Company and the Northern Michigan University Forest Roberts Theatre. From local bands to touring artists, Marquette offers a diverse range of musical experiences that captivate both residents and visitors alike.”

Yes, indeed. We wholeheartedly agree. This area has an amazing slate of great music coming up in the next three weeks, for example.

This weekend is the Lakenenland Music Fest at the sculpture park east of Marquette. From 5-11 p.m. today and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, a diverse lineup of musical talent will take to the stage. There’s no charge to attend, but donations are welcome.

Then the weekend of Aug. 24-26 is Marquette West Rotary’s HarborFest at Elwood Mattson Lower Harbor Park. Aug. 24 is Broadway at the Harbor by the Summer Strings of the Marquette Symphony Orchestra on the Main Stage at the park. Aug. 25 features two local bands, then Ratt tribute group followed by a Poison tribute band. Aug. 26 starts with the Northern Michigan University Marching Band, then three local groups with the headliner a KISS tribute band.

Talk about something for everyone.

Blues Fest hits the park’s stage Sept. 1-3, featuring an amazing lineup of local and national talent.

Of the ranking, James Collins of CheapoTicketing.com said it “reflects not only the diversity of music genres available across the nation but also the passion and resilience of local communities in keeping live music alive and thriving.”

The next three weekends show the area continues to be a great place for music lovers.
