While the temperature may not feel like spring, the calendar assures us it has indeed arrived.

Regardless, if you and your family are looking for a festive way to celebrate Easter, there are a few family-friendly events in the Marquette area this weekend.

The Kiwanis Club of Marquette will be hosting the 7th annual kids Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday at the Presque Isle Bandshell in Marquette.

Over 4,000 toy/candy filled eggs will be hidden and dispersed around the large green space by the bandshell.

The Easter Bunny will be there to help kids find eggs or get a picture with the bunny. The Marquette Fire Department will be sharing their truck with the kids and snacks will be available for after the hunt.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon, and the egg hunt kicks off at 11 a.m.

Also on Saturday, the Chocolay Township Lions Club will hold its 21st annual Easter egg hunt from 11 a.m. to noon.

The egg hunt will kick off with an opening ceremony at Silver Creek Church at 219 Silver Creek Road in Harvey. At 11:15 a.m., the Easter Bunny will cut the ribbon, symbolizing the beginning of the hunt. The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures after the ceremonial ribbon cutting.

Refreshments will be served at the function for all attendees.

While on the egg hunt, kids are encouraged to look out for specially marked golden eggs in order to win special prizes.

The event is sponsored and made possible by both the Chocolay Lions and Silver Creek Church.

And as part of its free winter movie series, the Thomas Theatre Group is screening the film, “Peter Rabbit” on Saturday and Sunday at its Marquette, Escanaba and Quinnesec theaters. The movie begins at 10 a.m. both days, and limited seating is available. The event is first come, first served.

Judging by the upcoming weather forecast, it looks like spring may finally make its way to the Upper Peninsula — not a moment too soon.
