We anticipate the Baraga Street area of Marquette will be busy Saturday when the Festival of the Angry Bear returns.
It's Marquette's biggest party of the spring, thrown by Ore Dock Brewing Co.
The annual celebration is usually a sign that spring is on the way and this year is no different. It started in 2014, this annual block party. It has come to draw thousands of happy people enjoying the spring with live music, food trucks and a wide selection of libations.
And rejoicing that winter is coming to a close.
The 2023 edition of the festival has some big things planned, with a huge selection of brews, seltzers, sodas and other special edition and limited release drinks.
This year's musical lineup is full of Midwest favorites, including the Go Rounds, fronted by Keweenaw native Graham Parsons, Brothers Quinn, Charlie Millard Band, Ramble Tamble, Blanco Suave and many more.
"We are so excited to continue to provide this event and see it continue to grow and envelop the entire city of Marquette in a fur coat of excitement as we all step out of our caves once the weather begins to warm," says Ore Dock Co-Founder and President Andrea Pernsteiner in a Mining Journal story about the event. "After last year's long-awaited return, and the tremendous support we saw from the community, we have no doubt that this year's celebration will be one for the ages."
The festival is free to attend for those 21 and over.
Other parts of the festival include the Fur Ball Boogie Costume Contest and Dance Off, the Queen City Beer Run Relay, a preview of this year's Fresh Coast Film Festival and the Angry Bear Run4YourLife 5K race.
