Upper Peninsula rightfully proud of Munising Mustangs

The Munising High School boys varsity basketball team is rewriting the school’s record book.

At 5:30 p.m. today, the Mustangs were to take to the court at Michigan State University’s Breslin Center in East Lansing in a Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 semifinal. Munising’s opponent is Marine City Cardinal Mooney which defeated Taylor Trillium Academy 59-56.

Playing at Negaunee Tuesday night, the Munising Mustangs knocked off the Painesdale Jeffers 52-43 in a quarterfinal contest. It was Munising’s first quarterfinal appearance since 1954.

As one might imagine, Munising might be something of a ghost town today as many community members made the long journey to the state capital to support the Mustangs.

Munising, if it wins today, will face the winner of tonight’s Frankfort-Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian semifinal in the Division 4 championship game at 10 a.m. Saturday, also from the Breslin Center.

We congratulate the Mustangs on their success so far and hope they are victorious today.

Regardless, the 2022-23 Mustangs have done their community — and the whole Upper Peninsula — proud.

Go Orange and Black.
