Cambensy future political plans remain subject of speculation

Alocally popular post-midterm election guessing game came to a merciful end late last week.

What game, you ask? The "What's Sara Cambensy going to do now that she's no longer in the Michigan House of Representatives?" game.

The Marquette Democrat announced she has been named executive director of the Michigan Chemistry Council.

The the Lansing-based organization put out the following statement: "Sara's hiring is the first step in the plan established by the MCC's Board of Directors to strengthen the organization, grow our influence and increase our ability to impact chemistry issues. … Sara was a recognized legislative leader with a record of working across the aisle to advance good policy and represent her constituents."

Some in the local community thought Cambensy might come back to Marquette to assume her old position of director of adult and continuing education for Marquette Area Public Schools or something similar.

Others speculated she'd end up being hired by a local bank or other professional organization looking for a blue chip name to associate it's business with.

Cambensy did say she will split her time between Lansing, and Marquette, where she has family and other ties.

Here's the intriguing part of all this: What are her future political plans? Does she anticipate running for office again?

Working for the Michigan Chemistry Council in Lansing lets her keep her oar in the political waters down there while paying the bills.

And there are, indeed, some interesting political waters nearby. Start with the big time and Debbie Stabinow's recent announcement that she will not seek reelection to the U.S. Senate.

Closer to home is Ed McBroom's State Senate seat and Jack Bergman's U.S. House seat.

Cambensy hasn't, to our knowledge, said very much publicly about any potential political plans. It could be she had her fill of the partisan drama that goes hand-in-hand with elected office these days and just wants to make a living from here on out.

So, until she choses to enlighten us, it seems we are playing another Sara Cambensy guessing game.

Starting at /week.
