Array of holiday activities being planned for Marquette’s downtown

Save the date! That’s our comment on the upcoming array of holiday events associated with downtown Marquette’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

The date is next Thursday, Dec. 8 and the activities actually kick off north of the downtown on North Third Street with the annual Christmas parade.

The parade will begin at 6 p.m. on Fair Avenue and will venture down North Third Street, ending at the Marquette Commons.

The Marquette Commons is also the site of the tree lighting ceremony, which will take place following the conclusion of the parade at 7 p.m.

According to recent Mining Journal coverage of all of this, North Third Street will be transformed into an enchanted scene from the North Pole, featuring numerous festively decorated floats, vehicles and marching units.

Here’s an added bonus. The United States Postal Service will be collecting letters to Santa along the parade route. Letters should include a return address so that Santa can write back

Following the parade, the fun will continue with the tree lighting ceremony at Marquette Commons.
