Here’s hoping U.P. Power shines brightly for teams left in hunt
The fall sports season is coming to an end and we wish the best of luck to Upper Peninsula teams left in the hunt for state championships.
In volleyball, the lone U.P. team to make the semifinals was Crystal Falls Forest Park who won at exciting quarterfinal contest Tuesday in Marquette.
The Trojans were to take on Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart on Thursday in a Division 4 semifinal after being cheered on by the community in a Wednesday morning parade as the team made its way downstate.
The Iron Mountain Mountaineers are one of two 11-player football teams from the U.P. still competing. Iron Mountain will taking on Ubly in Division 8 at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Petoskey.
At the same time, the Negaunee Miners will clash with Reed City in a Division 6 semifinal at Gaylord High School.
The Superior Dome is the site for the one 8-player team from the U.P. in the finals. In Division 2, Powers North Central will take on Mendon at 2 p.m. Saturday.
These young people have worked hard since training started in August, getting ready for the long road to a state crown.
And their communities, no doubt, will show up in troves to cheer their teams on no matter how far they must drive to get to the contests.
We hope all these games are great and that the special magic of U.P. Power helps them bring home titles.
Even if that doesn’t happen, though, we are proud of how well they’ve done so far.
Congratulations to all involved.
