Proposed ballot initiative worth readers’ effort to investigate

Although it’s a bit early in the 2022 electorial process to offer a formal endorsement or opposition, we’d recommend Mining Journal readers investigate what’s being termed a grassroots effort to get an item on the November ballot.

A recent Mining Journal story had these and other details.

The Voters Not Politicians organization held a signature-gathering event this past Saturday at the Marquette Farmers Market.

Voters Not Politicians sought to collect signatures for its Promote the Vote 2022 ballot initiative, which seeks to make changes in voting accessibility throughout the state. Some of the proposed changes in the initiative are:

≤ Creating nine days of early, in-person voting.

≤ Providing secure drop boxes for absentee voters.

≤ Making voting more convenient for elderly, rural, veteran and working voters.

≤ Modernizing how elections are administered.

“It creates nine days of secure, early, in-person voting,” said organizer Robert Anderson. “If you’re working hard on Election Day, if you’re working a long shift and you can’t get off, you’ll be able to vote. We’ve never had that before. States like Georgia, Colorado and many other states have early voting. It will expand turnout even more, giving you more convenience and more options.”

As the summer wears on and the August primary is in the rearview mirror, this ballot initiative effort, if successful, will start to make news. Count on it.

Getting ahead of that learning process makes a lot of sense. Do your own research and insure you consider both sides in the argument because there are very definitely two sides.

You’ll be better off for it.
