Marq Wars could be a fun way to enjoy Mother’s Day

If you’ve searched far and wide for a way to show mom that you care this Mother’s Day weekend, try looking to a galaxy far, far away.

Marq Wars, the second ever event hosted by a group called the Nerds of Marquette, will be held at the Masonic Square Mall Saturday.

The Star Wars-themed event will feature food, activities, vendors, costumes, demonstrations, silent auctions and much more. The event starts at 10 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m. Cost to attend is $20 for adults, $10 for kids aged 10-17; children under 10 get in free.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or are available online at www.matimqt.square.site/

“The proceeds from the silent auction will be donated to the (Marquette) Women’s Center this time around,” said Nerds of Marquette founder Joel Siegel. “Not only because it’s Mother’s Day weekend, but because we want to remind everyone that Star Wars is full of heroic female characters.”

The event will feature booths, demonstrations and other goodies from Cindy Engle, Joel Siegel, Iron Golem Games, Campfire CoWorks, Doozers, The Island, Hotplate Clayworks, The Art Drop Shop, Honee Pebbles, Social Justice for Us, and more.

“There will be customed people, droids roaming the floors, cookies and food available,” said Siegel. “Just some good old Star Wars-related fun.”

This event is not only family-friendly, but it will also help raise funds for a great cause. We see that as a win-win. On that note, we’d like to wish a happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there — you’re truly out of this world.
