Don’t forget suffering taking place in Ukraine

It has been six weeks since Russia launched its attack on Ukraine. Horror stories about what the invaders have done to the people of Ukraine are almost unbearable.

Millions of refugees have fled the country, with many more trying to get out of the battle zones while there is still time.

Help is still desperately needed and anyone can find some way to ease the suffering of Ukrainian children and families.

One of the charities that provides an outlet to help is The International Rescue Committee, which launched an emergency appeal to help support displaced families with critical aid.

The IRC gets top marks from charity watchdog groups for efficient use of donor contributions. Visit www.rescue.org to find out more and to take a contribution.

Concerned Americans also are urged to contact their political representatives to express support for relief efforts originating in the United States. From President Joe Biden to our local commissions and boards, all elected officials should be concerned about what’s happening to the people of Ukraine and be willing to help as they can.

Ukraine may be thousands of miles away, but we each should have empathy for the people there, suffering horrors we do not want to imagine.

Americans are blessed to not have fought off an invader on U.S. soil. As the saying goes, there but for the grace of God go I.

We don’t want anyone to forget what’s happening in Ukraine or to not understand how terrifying things are there.

Help if you can, even it is only through prayer.
