Please give to local non-profits this Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday, the worldwide day of giving that takes place each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is fast approaching.

The day, which comes right on the heels of Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, encourages people around the world to consider volunteering donating to nonprofits as part of their holiday giving.

In our region, the #Give906 campaign — which kicks off on Giving Tuesday — is a great way to keep your donations of time and money in the area, where they can help fund the nonprofits that support friends, neighbors and communities in the Upper Peninsula.

Organized by Grow & Lead Community and Youth Development, the #Give906 campaign has enlisted the help of more than 50 U.P organizations in an effort to help local communities with causes ranging from travel expenses for cancer patients to providing opportunities for local children to learn music.

Linda Remsburg, an associate at Grow & Lead, encourages everyone to participate.

“Some organizations are looking for help on specific projects,” Remsburg said. “Others are looking for funding to help them operate year round.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, communities everywhere have seen struggles and hardships and areas throughout the U.P are no different.

“There has been an uptick in people wanting to volunteer and lend a hand,” said Remsburg. “We’ve all seen it–people wanting to help and people who are in need of help.”

As Remsburg said, Giving Tuesday isn’t just for monetary donations — it’s also an opportunity to volunteer and give back to the community.

We hope our readers will browse the list of worthy regional nonprofit organizations compiled as part of the #Give906 campaign and find a way to give back, whether that’s through volunteering, donating, or any other way they can dream up to help.

Keeping donations in the region for Giving Tuesday is a great way to ensure your dollars support local nonprofits that help our communities every day.
