Marquette Blues hosting Legion Class A tourney

We hope the young baseball players participating in the American Legion Baseball state Class A tournament at Marquette’s Haley Memorial Field make memories while having a wonderful time.

The Marquette Blues are hosting the tourney, which started Thursday and continues through Saturday — and there may be a game on Sunday depending on earlier results.

There are two other Upper Peninsula teams in the tournament, Copper Country and Menominee.

Coming up from below the bridge are Chief Pontiac, Mount Pleasant and Blissfield.

Four games were scheduled for today and then on Saturday, the loser’s bracket final is at 10 a.m. and the championship round, game one, is at 1 p.m.

There will be one more game on Sunday, a championship “if necessary” game, if the Saturday 10 a.m. winner defeats the Friday 5 p.m. winner in Saturday’s second game.

Whew. That’s a lot to take in. We hope spectators will show up to cheer these Legion teams on as the season approaches its conclusion.

The past year and a half has been crazy due to the pandemic and all the safety precautions instituted because of it.

We are happy to see a return to a bit of normalcy as we rocket through summer here in the U.P.

Good luck to all the teams. We hope the players, coaches and visiting fans have a great visit to our area.

But we have to say this too: Go Blues!
