Veridea Group takes on new, significant project

The Veridea Group of Marquette has, over time, become one of the best known of local developers.

Headed by CEO Robert Mahaney, the company is recognized for being willing to take a chance, for doing first-class work and not cutting corners to prop up its bottom line.

Now, Veridea has another chance to burnish that sterling reputation in downtown Marquette. It was announced late last week that it has acquired the Flagstar/First National Bank complex.

The 80,000-square-foot campus will undergo a $10 million renovation that will result in multiple new businesses and uses for the facilities and the creation of around 200 new jobs, company officials said.

The acquired properties include four connected buildings that begin on Washington Street and run the length of Front Street’s 100 block to Main Street.

Included in the campus are the historic First National Bank and Kaufman buildings, located on the corner of Front and Washington streets, a Mining Journal story on the matter detailed.

Journal readers learned that Veridea has received lease commitments that should result in full occupancy of the premises by the end of the year and 200 new jobs based in the campus.

Mixed uses are planned, including current tenants Flagstar Bank and Travel Marquette, a restaurant and educational and economic development outlets.

Hats off to Mahaney and Veridea for taking on this kind of project and, of course, for having confidence in the future of Marquette’s downtown.

Starting at $3.23/week.
