Golf scramble to raise cash to benefit U.P. Children’s Fund

The seventh annual Grant Henriksen Memorial Golf Scramble to benefit the U.P. Children’s Fund is coming up soon and we hope as many people as possible participate in this effort to help a most worthy cause.

The U.P. Children’s Fund strives to help make life a little easier for families in the U.P. who have a child battling cancer.

Marquette native Grant Henriksen’s family knows all too well how difficult that effort can be. Grant was diagnosed with osterosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, in May 2010.

With great courage, Grant battled cancer. He died in September 2012, just after his 15th birthday.

In course of the family waging war on cancer, they found many simple things meant much, be it a family meal or being able to go as a family to the zoo to have fun before another chemo session.

The fund works to provide money to families to be used however the families need it to be.

The golf scramble is planned for Thursday, Aug. 1 at Marquette Golf Club.

The shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Entry fee is $60 per player or $240 per team. Registration includes nine holes of golf, two carts per team (if requested), munchies, prizes and entertainment by Jim & Ray.

Donations can be dropped off at Re/Max 1st Realty, 2854 Venture Drive, Marquette. Checks should be made payable to the U.P. Children’s Fund, which is a 501C3 organization.

For more information, visit UPChildrensFund.org, email UPChildrensFund@gmail.com, or call Tracy at 250-0051 or Greg at 281-5990.

Please consider having a fun day at the golf course to aid U.P. families who are going through the difficult experience of battling childhood cancer.
