Marquette Econ Club speaker lineup for 2018-19 a good one

Looks like a solid line up of speakers for the Economic Club of Marquette County’s 2018-19 season.

Known informally as the Econ Club, the group has been bringing in speakers of note and import for decades in one-per-month addresses Monday nights at the Ramada Inn. If the greater Marquette area has anything near a tradition in terms of this kind of activity, this is probably it.

Things get rolling Sept. 17 with Kyle Melinn, editor and vice president of the Michigan Information & Research Service Newsletter. On Oct, 15, it’s going to be Sean Kanuch, who is director of the Future Conflict and Cyber Security Program of the International Institute for Strategic Studies. Bob Stefanski, co-founder and general partner of Michigan e-lab, is scheduled to speak Nov. 12.

On Dec. 17, Jessica Thompson, an associate professor in NMU’s Communications and Performance Studies Department, will give the address. Look for Brian Sinotte, market president of UP Health System-Marquette, on Jan. 21. The Alger County Tourism Panel is set for Feb. 18. The next month, on March 18, it’s Kristen Mariuzza. Mariuzza is general manager of Eagle Mine. The season concludes on April 15 with Keith Glendon, from the IBM Security Division.

Planners have included something for everyone, it seems.

Non-members are invited to attend the speaker-dinners for $45 per person. Dinners take place at the Ramada Inn and start with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the program. Reservations can be made by calling 906-315-2155 or online at marquetteeconomic.org.

We recommend readers consider checking out one or more of these speakers and enjoy the Ramada Inn’s good eats while they are doing it.
