Weekend replete with wonderful activities in area

While we’re not guaranteeing great weather, we are guaranteed one of the busiest weekends of the summer today through Sunday.

If you cannot find something to do this weekend, well, that’s on you.

Things got off to a rolling start with today’s Blueberry Festival in downtown Marquette. From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the 100 block of West Washington Street and the 200 block of Front Street have been filled with all things blueberry. Plus, there is great music from the youth talent show and from the variety of musicians filling the air with wonderful sound.

Saturday brings art to the people with the 60th annual Art on the Rocks in Mattson Lower Park and the 25th annual Outback Art Fair at Shiras Park (Picnic Rocks), both in Marquette. Hundreds of artists from the area and from all over the country will have work on display in a feast for the eyes.

Both art events are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, Art on the Rock is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Outback is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Don’t miss either.

Saturday also will see the Teal Lake Swim for Diabetes in Negaunee and Ishpeming, an effort to raise funds to battle that disease; Gwinn Fun Daze which includes a parade and activities centered at Nordeen Park in that community; and 119th annual Italian Fest in Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming, a celebration of a nationality which has played an important role in the development of our area.

Gwinn Fun Daze and Italian Fest both include food, music, kids games, and all sorts of other fun. Taking part should put a smile on anyone’s face.

It’s a fabulous weekend to celebrate in our area. We hope all our readers venture out to one or more of these awesome events.
