Lake Superior Theatre marking 20 years of excellence

We congratulate all involved with the Lake Superior Theatre as it marks its 20th anniversary.

This little gem is located in a working boathouse filled with marine artifacts at 270 N. Lakeshore Boulevard. It began its season where it started with the local treasure “Beacon on the Rock,” but that was just the beginning of what should be an outstanding summer at LST.

Next up is “Superior Adventures.” Starting Tuesday, a week of special shows will hit the stage each day featuring local history savants Jack Deo, Karl Bohnak, Capt. Orion Couling and his parents, Jim and Mary, all sharing fascinating tidbits about our area.

Superior Arts Youth Theatre’s production of “High School Musical Jr.” will take over the stage from Aug. 1-11, followed by “Godspell” Aug. 14-26, then “Broadway at the Boathouse” Aug. 29-31.

That final show celebrates the LST’s 20 years and is dedicated to James Panowski aka Dr. P, artistic director for many years at Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre.

Complete schedules are available at lakesuperiortheatre.com, Facebook, the theatre and the former ticket office in the lower harbor rack cards holders. For tickets, visit the Berry Events Center, call NMU’s ticket system at 906-227-1032 or book a reserved seat online directly at tickets.nmu.edu

All shows begin at 7:30 p.m with the exception of two Sunday matinees for “Godspell” at 3 p.m.

Just making way to the theatre is a walk through beauty and there probably isn’t another theatre in the country with as amazing view as Lake Superior Theatre has. We thank the Frazier family for sharing their boathouse with the public.

We hope all our readers take time in what’s always a busy summer to attend a performance or three at Lake Superior Theatre. These wonderful, artistic community members who spend their summers working on the brilliant LST productions will entertain, inspire, educate, and enlighten audiences all summer long.

A huge round of applause for them.
