Stretch of County Road 510 in line for repair

Motorists that use a certain stretch of Marquette County Road 510 are going to see it fixed.

But the repairs to .8 mile of County Road 510 between Hardwood Lane and Marquette County Road 502, also known as Midway Drive won’t take place until the 2017 construction season, according to Jim Iwanicki, engineer-manager of the Marquette County Road Commission.

Iwanicki said work could include realigning an existing “Y” intersection of County Road 510 and Midway Drive into a traditional “T” intersection.

None of the above will come cheap.

The Michigan Department of Transportation will provide $375,000 from its Transportation Economic Development Fund for the project.

The Marquette County Road Commission will chip in with an additional $125,000.

Given the nature and volume of traffic that uses that particular stretch of County Road 510, this is a project that needs to be done.

We’re pleased it’s finally on the books and ready to go for the 2017 construction season.
