Playground project demonstrates great teamwork

We like the teamwork and spirit of community demonstrated at a location in the city of Negaunee Saturday when a group of Neganee residents, ably assisted by members of the Negaunee High School Miners football team and interested others, came together to construct a new playground.

The project is taking place at the Bernie Rivers Memorial Field. Overall, work will cost an estimated $200,000, $100,000 of which originated from a Michigan Department of Natural Resources grant with the balance of the funds chipped in by the city.

The playground, we’re told, will have something for everyone. In addition to walking and hiking routes, a facility to play horseshoes and basketball, adults visiting with children will have the opportunity to work exercise on provided equipment.

The can-do attitude demonstrated by participants, coupled with the wise use of public funds, will result in an outstanding public park that can be enjoyed for many years to come.
