Pesola a worthy recipient of 2014 Evergreen Award

It is with the greatest pleasure that we echo the many positive comments from the community on the selection of Christine Pesola to receive the 2014 Evergreen Award.

Given by the Marquette Zonta Club to someone who actively helps women and children reach their potential, the award was announced Monday in a special ceremony on the campus of Northern Michigan University.

According to a written statement from the Marquette Zonta Club, the award is open to men and women of Marquette County who are inspirational in their roles as mentors of women and girls

The selection committee evaluated the nominees based on how they demonstrated excellence, creativity and initiative in their professions or as volunteers.

Pesola has a lengthy and distinguished public service resume. She is a longtime supporter of Harbor House and the Children’s Center. She has long been active in United Way and Rotary West.

Additionally, Pesola volunteers for and donates time, money, talents and food to the YMCA of Marquette County, Beacon House and Janzen House. And she has been president of the Marquette Downtown Development Association.

She has supported the Marquette Fourth of July Committee and the Upper Peninsula Hospice Association.

In the business world, Pesola , who co-owns the Landmark Inn in Marquette, was instrumental in resurrecting the hotel, transforming it from an abandoned structure to a city show piece.

Internally at the hotel, she is revered by employees for her leadership and dedication.

The Evergreen Award always goes to someone special, who has liberally given of their time, talent and treasure to others. Pesola’s selection is certainly well deserved.
