Bond family saga proves love is eternal

Today’s feature on the Superior people page, (page 6A) will most assuredly tug at the heart strings of anyone who reads it.

Penned by veteran Journal staff writer Renee Prusi, it tells the tale of another Mining Journal staffer, David Bond, and the moment he finally met his birth mother after being given up for adoption 44 years ago.

“I always dreamed of him knocking on my door some day and when I opened that door, all my fears went away and I finally got to hug my beautiful boy,” his mother Judy Adams says in the story.

Adams gave Bond up for adoption in 1970 because she was just 18 years old and unmarried when he was born. She thought it was the best option for her newborn son.

In June, mother and son were reunited for the first time.

Bond was able to tell Adams all about growing up in Negaunee with adoptive parents Bill and Joanne Bond, both of whom have passed away.

And Adams was able to introduce Bond to his half-brother and a slew of relatives he never even knew he had.

In a world that is often consumed with the bad, this is a story that highlights the good.

It specifically touches on a subject not often spoken of – adoption. We hope this story provides reassurance to any young mother or father who made the difficult choice to let their children have a better chance with a different family. And we also hope it shows to those people who were adopted that their parents made the best choice they could at that time, hoping their child would have a chance for a better life with someone else.

We could go on and on about the true power of family, but we think Adams said it best.

“How do I feel now that I have met David and his family? My heart is whole, complete,” she said.
