The Feed a Neighbor project is one of those rare win-win propositions. The fifth annual Project Feed a Neighbor food drive is happening as you read this and it needs your help.

Food pantries at the Ishpeming Salvation Army and the St. Vincent de Paul stores in Ishpeming, Negaunee and Republic are all in need of non-perishable food donations and rely on community support.

Volunteers have passed out donation bags in Ishpeming and Negaunee this past weekend and will pick up any items left in the bags from neighborhood curbs Saturday.

Because of the long, harsh winter, the residents of the Upper Peninsula have endured, the pantries are in as great a need -if not greater – of donations then ever before.

Project coordinator Dick Derby said anyone who wishes to donate non-perishable items can either do so via the provided collection bags, leaving them at curbside. Or, items can be dropped off at the following locations: St. Augustine Church, Republic United Methodist Church, Bethany Lutheran Church, Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sacred Heart Church, Woodland United Methodist Church, Summer Place and TruNorth Credit Union.

We believe this is a worthy chaity. There are a lot of hungry people in need in the U.P. and this is the perfect opportunity to help.
