Congratulations to the newest group of inductees to the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame and welcome to all those visiting the area to take part in the annual Hall of Fame Weekend in Ishpeming.

At 7 p.m. today, this year’s class of honored members will join the hall at an enshrinement ceremony at the facility, which is located along U.S. 41 in Ishpeming. Those joining the hall are Horst Abraham, Jeremy Bloom, Kirsten Clark, Hans Geier, Craig Kelly and Wayne Wong, all of whom have made significant contributions to the snow sports. Each inductee’s photo tribute plaque will become part of the Hall of Fame’s Honor Court.

The placement ceremony is open to the public and is free of charge.

Prior to the ceremony, a ski jumpers reunion barbecue will take place starting at 5 p.m.

Saturday, the Hall of Fame weekend continues with the annual Kiwanis Breakfast starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Kron-Dingfelder Hall at St. John’s Church. The cost is $5.

At noon Saturday, the Coy Hill Golf Tournament, with shotgun start, will start at Wawonowin Country Club in western Marquette County.

Then at 6 p.m. Saturday, the Carl Tellefsen Banquet takes place at the Country Village Conference Center in Ishpeming.

Ishpeming is the birthplace of organized skiing in the United States and it’s always wonderful to have the spotlight shine on the wonderful U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, a facility filled with history and tales of the evolution of those sports, told through the people who have been inducted through the years.
