Harbor Fest a success, earns cash for local efforts

Although they are still doing the math, Marquette Rotary West’s Harbor Fest 2013 held last weekend in the Mattson Lower Harbor Park was a resounding success, by all accounts.

Thousands of people crowded into the park, aided by some of the best weather to visit the area this summer, lots of good food, music and, of course, adult beverages.

All profits from the three-day event, which included a catered gala Thursday night, will go to support local organizations and efforts.

Over the years, Rotary West has given more than $600,000, including some $23,000 in the past month.

The Harbor Fest is one of several events that raises that raises tens of thousands of dollars each year for local organizations and charities.

Club members and the legions of other volunteers get nothing from donating their time and effort, other than the satisfaction of helping their friends and neighbors.

We salute them for their efforts.
