FORSYTH TWP, MI – Stanley Lawrence LaCosse, age 83, of Gwinn, passed away on November 3, 2026, at Bayside Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in L'Anse.
Stanley was born in Champion, Michigan, on January 4, 1943, to Eugene and Sylvia (Saari) LaCosse. He was raised in Champion and, after completing his education, began working for Cleveland-Cliffs at the Empire Mine, where he dedicated 30 years of service before retiring. He made his home in Gwinn, Michigan, where he became a familiar and beloved member of the community.
Stanley was a man whose faith, love for his family, and kindness touched the lives of many. A devoted Catholic, he was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he never hesitated to share it with others. He often spoke of “winning souls for Christ", a reflection of how deeply he believed in his faith and his desire to bring others closer to God.
Stanley was also deeply devoted to his children and family. He was known for his friendly nature, his warm heart, and the smile that was almost always on his face. He walked everywhere he went, becoming a familiar sight around Gwinn, where he was loved by so many. He enjoyed photography and fishing, finding happiness in the simple pleasures of life.
Above all, Stanley will be remembered as a faith-filled man who loved God, cherished his children, and made an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, welcoming smile, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Survivors include his children, Keith (Erika) LaCosse of Gwinn and Catrina (Shawn) Prisk of Ely Township; grandchildren, Victoria (Nate) Niemi, Phillip LaCosse, Aaron Beckman, Jessica (Dalton) Roberts, and Brandon Beckman; great-grandchildren, Rylee Niemi and Aaliyah Beckman; and several nieces and nephews.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Kathy; and his brothers, Gene and Robert LaCosse.
Visitation for Stanley will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m., with Fr. Sebastian Oppong officiating. A reception will follow the mass in the church hall. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
