MARQUETTE, MI - Charles "Pete" Bersinger, age 91, of Marquette, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Mill Creek Assisted Living, surrounded by the loving care of his family and caregivers.
Pete was born and raised in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. He was the son of James and Mary (Johns) Bersinger. Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served in communications. In 1958, he married the love of his life, Grace Zintman, in Marquette. During his military career, the couple lived in Hawaii and Georgia before returning to the Marquette area, where Pete was honorably discharged from the Air Force.
Together, Pete and Grace made their home in Marquette, where they raised their family and built a life filled with love and lasting memories. Pete was a talented and hardworking man who could fix just about anything. Mechanically inclined and never afraid of a project, he even built the family home himself. He went on to work as an elevator technician for Otis Elevator Company until his retirement in his late 50s.
Pete found happiness in the simple things in life. He loved golfing, hunting, and spending time at camp, especially making memories with his family and grandchildren. He and Grace also enjoyed escaping to Florida each winter. A gifted woodworker, Pete enjoyed building birdhouses and creating things with his hands. He was the person everyone called when something needed fixing, and he was always willing to lend a hand. He took great pride in his lawn and making sure it was just perfect.
Above all, Pete deeply loved his family. Whether gathered at camp, sharing time together, or simply enjoying one another’s company, those moments meant the most to him. He was a proud family man whose love, talents, and willingness to help others will be remembered by all who knew him. Pete was also an active member of the Masons.
Pete is survived by his son, James (Carla) Bersinger of Marquette; daughter, Julie (Jeffrey) Erickson of Negaunee; grandchildren, Joel Erickson of Negaunee, Jared (Paige) Erickson of Ishpeming, Cory (Emilee) Bersinger of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, and Emily Bersinger of Rosemount, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Avery Erickson and Evan Erickson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Grace; his parents; brothers, Don and Robert Bersinger; sisters, Phyllis Metz and Pauline Hamme; and in-laws, Grace and Albert Gentz.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mill Creek Assisted Living for the kindness, compassion, and loving care they provided Pete over the past five years.
Visitation for Pete will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Silver Creek Church. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Kevin Taylor officiating. A reception will take place in the church hall following the service. Interment will be made in the Park Cemetery.
