MARQUETTE, MI – Patricia Scullin “Pat” Gruber, 77, of Marquette, passed away at Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee on October 2, 2026.
Pat was born in Fort Atkinson, WI in July 1949, the third of six children born to Alice (Brown) and Daniel Scullin. She grew up in Fort Atkinson and graduated from high school there. She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point where she was the first woman to graduate from their College of Natural Resources.
After graduation she moved to Escanaba where she worked for the Central Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Regional Commission. While working there, she met her future husband, Norman Gruber. Pat later moved to Marquette where she worked for the City of Marquette Planning Department. She married Norm in May 1978 and they welcomed one daughter, Beth. Pat's career continued with J.M. Longyear, LLC; the County of Marquette Planning Commission; and the K.I. Sawyer Development Department.
Among her hobbies were gardening, quilting, and tatting lace. She achieved the status of Master Gardener through the MSU Extension Program. Through the years she was a member of the Business & Professional Women; Marquette Hope United Methodist Church, where she could often be found in the kitchen; the Marquette Beautification & Restoration Committee; Red Hats; and the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval reenactment group.
Pat is survived by her husband of 48 years, Norm; her daughter, Beth; her siblings, Eileen (Bill) Foskett, Maureen McGarrigle, and Daniel (Deborah) Scullin; and in-laws, Jane (Rick) Church, and Carolyn Gruber. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Alice; two siblings, Margaret "Peggy" Thomas and Terrance "Terry" Scullin; and in-laws, Gertrude (Curtis) & Norman Gruber Sr. and Dale Gruber.
Pat’s family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, October 9, 2026 at Fassbender Hansen Funeral Home beginning at 10 a.m. A memorial service will take place at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Scott Harmon officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the funeral home reception room. Interment of ashes will take place at the family farm in Butternut, WI at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Brookridge Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care, Eastwood Nursing Center, Norlite Nursing Center, and Lake Superior Hospice, along with Dr. Joyce and Dr. Kroll for their help and support over the last several years.
