MARQUETTE, MI – Valerie Kay Hill, 69, of Marquette, passed away peacefully Monday, September 14, 2026 at UPHS-Marquette in the care of her loving family.
Valerie was born October 19, 1956 in Ishpeming to Robert and Evelyn (Hebert) Valella and was a proud graduate of Ishpeming High School, Class of 1974. Following graduation, Valerie began her employment in the service industry as a waitress working at numerous restaurants throughout her career. She took a lot of pride in taking care of her customers and visiting with them.
Valerie enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino, and loved spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Keith (Jennifer) Laurila of Ishpeming, and Sheila (Matt Ewald) of Wisconsin; her former husband, Jan Laurila of Negaunee, seven grandchildren: Courtney and Samantha Beauchamp, Miranda, Allyson, and Brytni Ewald, and Sharon and Cody Laurila; two sisters: Deborah Arbelius, and Beverly Ayotte; one sister-in-law, Toni Valella; and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jason Laurila; one brother, Duane Valella; and one brother-in-law, Blaine Arbelius.
Honoring her wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
